Garance & The Mitochondries
Composer, singer and accordionist, Garance, arrived in London from France in 2009 to learn English. 'Just two months' she thought .. but via odd jobs in small businesses (saleswoman, gardener, florist ...) she finally found herself in a freak club in London, playing the accordion at reception inbetween dwarves and fakirs.
Spotted opening for Razorlight in Gold Arrow, Paris she fled with the Circus Gifford playing in the orchestra in a corset and high heels. Her most beautiful musical encounters have happened on the street, (Brooke Sharkey, Jim Dakota, Oliver Ralfe ...) and in those same streets of London she met Leander Lyons (electric guitar), Ewan Bleach (clarinet, sax, barriton), Mirabelle Gillis (violin), Adam Beattie / Harry Deacon (double-bass) and Barny Rockford (drums), the members of her current band 'The Mitochondries'.
The songs are heavy and light, covering everyday life topics ranging from dreaming of a photo ID found in the street, to a frantic late night trawl. Ultimately the group is an unexpected electrical shock - soft cinematic music broken by the charming side of burlesque and cabaret, sounding like a mixture of Tom Waits, Edith Piaf and Frank Zappa.
Garance & The Mitochondries having been playing for three years on the English scene and are regulars on London's underground Cult Scene, of which they never tire. After several tours in Europe, their first album was released in 2014.
