Landermason' are a duo like no other! Multi instrumentalist Fiona Lander (vocals, piano, whistles, saxes, clarinet and recorder) and Paul Mason (guitars and vocals) have developed a unique sound which displays their undoubted talents. They combine both traditional and contemporary folk with jazz and other styles in their beautiful compositions and striking arrangements.

They have recorded and produced 5 studio album's, an EP and a charity single to date on their own label LAMA Records and have enjoyed airplay on BBC Radio 2, 3 and 4 as well as on many other radio shows across the network. Their version of 'Dance to Your Daddy' was used in an episode of BBC 1's Antiques Road Show, whilst their track 'Somalia' was featured in a BBC 3 documentary narrated by Scarlett Johansson called Escape From The Worlds Most Dangerous Place. They were commissioned to write an original sound track for The Pied Piper of Hamelin, a puppet show staged at the Up-Front Puppet Theatre in Cumbria, based on Michael Morpurgo's recent adaptation of the well known childrens classic.

Their LIVE sound is impressive, full of variety and with plenty of audience interaction. Often described as 'refreshingly different', Landermason are equally at home entertaining audiences in folk and acoustic music clubs, theatres, festivals, village halls and pubs and are proud to have performed at some of the UK's best known live music venues.

Fiona Lander
Born in Hexham, Fiona learned to play the piano and clarinet whilst at primary school then joined choirs and took up the saxophone at high school. Her first public solo performance was at the age of ten where she played the jazz standard 'Night Train' on clarinet at a school concert. Jazz has always been a major influence in her life with both her father and music teacher being jazz pianists. Fiona went on to study music at Colchester Institute and gained an Honours degree. It was here that she found a real love for composition and arrangement, studying with Alan Bullard. Fiona went on to teach music in two high schools and became Head of Department in one for 5 years. Following her move back to the North East, Fiona has taught as a peripatetic music teacher with Music Partnership North for ten years. Now working independantly, she is highly respected in the region as a teacher of woodwind, piano and leads a small jazz band. In 2014 she established herself as a composer and has already had two commissions! She has her own dedicated website where scores for choirs and instrumental pieces can be viewed/purchased.

When it comes to live performance, if the opportunity arises, Fiona loves to get up and perform with other musicians too. She has performed on stage with Johnny Dickinson, Eddie Walker, Kirsty McGee & Mat Martin, Lucy Ward, Gareth Davies-Jones, Clive Gregson, Union Jill and Rag Mama Rag. In February 2015, she was delighted to work on a recording project with Clive Gregson, Andy Seward and The Hayes Sisters, engineered by John Wood.

Paul Mason
Born in Sunderland, Paul was given his first guitar at the age of 12 and taught himself to play. At the age of 13, Paul has his first lessons and was lucky enough to have fellow Wearsider Dave Stewart (of Eurythmics fame) as his first guitar teacher. From these early beginnings, Paul gained invaluable experience over the next few years playing lead guitarist in variety of rock bands throughout the North East of England. This was followed by a move to London in the early '80s to seek fame and fortune with a rock band known as The Dumb Blondes. Moderate success followed - The Dumb Blondes released a single on Fresh Records, played a number of major London venues and went on tour in the UK supporting bigger name rock bands.

However, following a serious accident with a circular saw which badly damaged his left hand, Paul gave up music for about 4 years. Then one day he came to realise that although the accident was serious, he was lucky still to have all his fingers. So he went out and bought a nylon string guitar because it was still too painful to play steel string, due to the sensitive scar tissue on his fingers. Paul never looked backed. He found he really enjoyed playing classical music and also started composing pieces for classical guitar. Following a chance meeting with Russian classical guitarist Alex Vlassenkov, Paul was able to work on his playing technique with Alex's help.

"Absolutely brilliant!" ~ RICHARD DIGENCE

"Fantastic performance - you held the audience spellbound from the first note to the last. The main comment I got from the people who were there was "when are they coming back?" ~ Ben Campbell, FOLK ON THE MOOR, Devon June 2012

"A stunning blend of diverse musical influences which captivated our audience from the very first few seconds, all the way to the sumptuous encore. Fiona and Paul are a great song-writing team, and deliver their unique music with such passion and style. What great imagination to present Brubeck on a penny whistle alongside haunting contemporary folk melodies and really fresh takes on some regional classics. The music was complimented by informative introductions and gentle humour to keep the audience totally engaged" ~ Steve Robson, Ireshopeburn Literary Institute (Live review)>
