Ben Baddoo Dance Company
Ben Baddoo is a UK-based Ghanaian percussionist, who started playing drums aged 6 in Nsakina, a Village 20 miles from Accra, Ghana's Capital. Deeply imbued with the spirit of West African rhythm traditions, he has been an important world music teacher and inspiration in Bristol for years.
Capturing the imagination of the audience with his incredible African xylophone sounds during the Radio 4’s More Than Words festivals in Bristol 2012, Ben is a widely known figure in the world of drum and dance, having been among it’s leading exponents in the UK. He is also in demand as a session player, an has guested with artists as diverse as Vangellis, Nick Turner, Peter Gabriel and most recently Temple of Sound. Ben is further noted for his Drum and Dance Workshops, which he has delivered not only at festivals around the world, but also in schools and colleges throughout the UK. A solo drum track that he recorded for the Womad Talking Book CD has become part of the UK Schools Curriculum.
Ben also appears as the front man for Baraka, playing dance and party music featuring West African Highlife, South African Township and Calypso, Soca and Reggae from the Caribbean featuring musicians from Ghana, Zambia, Dominica and Ireland.
